Labradorite is an important feldspar gemstone. It often displays a beautiful play of iridescent colors, which can change when the stone is rotated. Labradorite gems typically have a dark base color with metallic plays of blue, green, yellow, and red. This iridescent effect is known as labradorescence and is named after the stone. It is caused by internal fractures that reflect light back and forth, scattering it into different colors.
