Who we are

Sacred Loom Peru connects skilled Andean artisans with people around the world who value authentic textiles, ancestral traditions and meaningful craftsmanship.

About Us

Bringing Cusco’s Weaving Art to the World

Sacred Loom kickstarts initiatives to bring the weaving art from Cusquenian communities to the wider world. Our association formed in 2020, just before the world’s most contagious virus closed down global travel.

What began during an unprecedented global challenge became a lasting commitment to the families, friends and communities whose weaving traditions give every Sacred Loom piece its meaning.

Our Story

Born During a Difficult Time

Covid-19 was a period of hardship when many entrepreneurs saw their dreams collapse. Here in Peru, our families, friends and communities were deeply affected.

During the pandemic, we encouraged our communities to continue demonstrating their skills and weaving talents—their primary way of feeding their families. With no international visitors to buy their sacred textiles, we created the online marketplace SacredLoomPeru.com to support our communities and bring their exquisite works of art to you, our global family.

Our weaving community continued to work, exploring new Andean patterns, creating different colours through natural dyeing and developing new designs that we believe are more suited to modern tastes.

Inspired through challenge, Sacred Loom began this journey towards creating a better future for our communities of weavers.

Our Founder

Nelida Villca Huaman

Instructor, healing master, spiritual response practitioner and transformational coach

Nelida Villca Huaman is passionate about empowering others to embody their inner healing potential.

Her worldview has led her to support her fellows in some of Peru’s most remote villages. Our benefactor represents a snapshot of the backgrounds and stories of many women in Andean peasant communities. Every village has its own leader or representative, whose work includes maintaining direct contact with Sacred Loom Peru to discuss opportunities for improvement.

Nelida believes the weavers should not receive a fixed monthly wage; instead, they should be paid for each product. She keeps an eye on her Andean weaving colleagues’ work process but never interferes with a sample or item’s price. In support of fair trade, the weavers choose their own best range of prices.

Nelida’s people skills are profound, and they have made her loved and warmly welcomed wherever she goes. She is sought out by weavers and healers alike.

Nelida is also willing to provide virtual sessions for those genuinely interested in sharing a weaving experience with her and the weavers.
