Handy crafted Mesa Cloth for Medicine ceremonies & rituals, traditional Alpaca item woven on Chinchero.
A mestana, or mesa cloth is used to contain sacred items. These ancient medicine bundles of the Andes are used to connect to Pachamama, and the Apus or mountain spirits. Each piece has been individually handcrafted from scratch. For this, they collect the wool from their own alpacas, then create the wool fibers, hand dye them with natural dyes made from plants and seeds, and finally when they turn them into a beautiful and natural wool yarn, they hand knit from intricate way these majestic pieces with which they honor their ancestors while respecting their techniques and designs, which is why their textiles are considered the closest to those of the Incas.
This beautiful piece designed with representations of sacred Andean animals shows the Andean worldview, animals that carry a message of teaching and purification.
The table serves as a physical and spiritual container for the shaman’s power, knowledge, and connection to the spiritual realms.
